Star Lab! (HAR)

All ages – Experience a planetarium show right here in the Harrisburg Library! Shows will run from 10am to 6pm at intervals with presenter breaks. Check the online calendar for weekly topics. The Star Lab is courtesy of the State Library of North Carolina.

Statewide Star Party (HAR)

All ages – Help us celebrate “Sun and Moon” during the 2024 eclipse at the Harrisburg Library! We will be one of this year’s Statewide Star Party hosts. There will be games, crafts, a scavenger hunt, and more! Please note that the Star Party will take place indoors and will have no guided eclipse viewing, but patrons may come and go from the event. NCSciFest’s annual Statewide Star Party is made possible through the generous support of the NC Space Grant.

We will not be handing out eclipse glasses at this event. 

NC Rocks! (HAR)*

Ages 6-11 – Do you know what a rockhound is? Maybe you are one, or maybe you’ve heard about rockhounding but don’t know where to get started! At this program, we will discover the best rock-hunting sites in the area as well as learn what you should (or should not) do while rockhounding in North Carolina. Attendees will make a clay craft of a simulated mineral or fossil to take home. This is part of the NC Sciences Festival.

Homeschool Hub: The Wright Stuff (MID)

Ages 6-11 – Do you have the “Wright” stuff to make a plane?  Join us as we learn about the Wright brothers and planes.  We’ll make our won paper airplanes and see how far we can make them fly.

FAM* (HAR)

Ages 6-15 – Love art? Want to learn about the techniques of the masters AND get to create your own cosmic work of art? Come and join the FAM where we will explore a different fine artist each month! In April we will use art to explore the cosmos! Registration required.

Teen STEAM* (HAR)

Teen – Think you have what it takes to keep a spacecraft operating on the moon? What about Mars, or one of Jupiter’s moons? Test your strategic skills in a card game designed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and see who will be crowned best explorer of the final frontier! This program is an NCSciFest event.

Statewide Star Party (HAR)

Celebrate the Night Sky at the Harrisburg Branch Library! We will be one of this year’s Statewide Star Party hosts on April 21st at 7:00 pm and we have an exciting evening planned! Take a bookwalk through the library, marvel at the latest images from the James Webb telescope, and of course, take in the stars at Harrisburg Park. There will be games, crafts, a scavenger hunt, and more! Attendance is free so please bring the whole family. Parking is available in the park and in the Library’s two lots. Registration is not required for this event. In case of rain, Harrisburg’s Star Party will be postponed to April 22nd. This month we’ll be exploring the science side of North Carolina! Do you know where the best stargazing sites are? Please only register those who will remain in the room during the program.
